AMAS would like to offer an extensive selection of books to the children who attend in both English and Spanish. At present only a very basic selection of books is available to the children and so more are desperately needed. If you have educational books or story books in Spanish or basic children´s story books in English (the level of English of the children is obviously very basic and so complicated English books would not be suitable for them) these would be gratefully received. At present AMAS have 2 teachers who attend daily. Both are volunteers and do not receive any remuneration. There are local volunteers who also attend to assist the children but not on a regular basis. Likewise foreign volunteers also assist but are normally only there for between 1-3 months. There are of course times when there are no volunteers in attendance. Approximately 70 children attend the AMAS community centre daily and on occasions when there are only 2 teachers available to attend to their needs it really is not sufficient. In order to assure stability for the children and offer them a much higher level of attention, we would like to contract a minimum of 2 further teachers on a permanent basis. Each teacher would receive a wage of approximately €130 per month. If you are able to donate a fixed sum on a monthly basis this is a perfect option to help many children all at once. Any amount is welcome – it is just necessary that it is paid each month so that we can depend on that amount to pay the wage of the teacher employed. If you would like to assist in this way All of the children who attend the AMAS community centre have their own individual needs and each and every one of them would benefit from being sponsored. Some have higher needs than others. Unfortunately some suffer extreme poverty, domestic violence, insufficient food, lack of clothing and shoes etc. If you are able to make a donation on a monthly basis sponsoring a child is an ideal opportunity to help. In order to sponsor a child we ask for a minimum of €20 per month. In April the school year begins and school fees are due and therefore in the month of April we ask for an additional donation if possible. If you are interested in sponsoring a child Please confirm approximately how much per month you will be able to send to sponsor the child and we will send you details of children who have needs to match that amount so that you can choose which child you would prefer to sponsor. Once you begin making your monthly donation we will send you regular updates on the child´s progress together with photos of that child with the items, clothing, shoes etc that your money will be purchasing for them. Depending on the age of the child sponsored you will receive either drawings or letters from the child that you sponsor. Do you enjoy knitting? Would you be able to knit an item of clothing and send it out to Peru? The children are in great need of warm clothing and in this way our helpers enjoy making an item knowing that it is going to an extremely good cause. Here are a couple of easy patterns but please feel free to knit any
item, big or small, and send it directly to Peru at the following address: If sending the item from Spain via the post office you will be charged €14.50 for the first kilo and €4.50 for each additional kilo. If you have friends who would like to knit or donate clothing to send out to Peru you can share the postage costs between you to reduce the price.
