April 2009
We are in desperate need of volunteers to assist with the children at the centre in Cusco, Perú.
The founder of the charity, Sra Luz, is currently working on her own attending to the needs of approximately 90 children each day and is in desperate need of assistance.
We had another full time volunteer who worked at the centre up until last year but had to leave due to personal circumstances. Since then we have had a number of foreign volunteers who have visited the centre for anything from a couple of weeks to 3 or 4 months and with their help we have been able to continue to help the children.
If you, a friend or family member are interested in visiting the centre as a volunteer, even if it is just for a week, please contact us. Please send an e-mail to all your friends and contacts to see if anyone would be interested in going to Peru. This is an urgent request and this situation must be resolved soon to allow AMAS to continue its important work with the children of this rural community.
February 2009
Thanks again to KPMG in London and with special thanks to Hayley Shanks for raising 600 pounds for AMAS.
The donation comes at a time when we particularly need funds.
Firstly and most importantly a few months ago a mother and her daughter were badly burnt in a fire. The daughter thankfully was not seriously injured and her burns healed quickly. We paid for her treatment. However her mother was really very seriously burnt and continues to receive treatment and recover very slowly. Under these circumstances she took the decision to send her daughter to Lima to work as a kind of a housekeeper in a family’s house. The daughter really hated it and wanted to come back but the family (who paid for her journey to Lima) refused to pay for her journey back to Cusco so she got stranded there. We paid for her journey back to Cusco and brought her home but obviously she is in need of financial assistance.
Secondly the sponsor of one of the girls who was sponsored all of last year (Elsa) is no longer able to sponsor her. We are desperately looking for a new sponsor for her. This money means that in the meantime we can continue supporting her until a new sponsor is found. In addition Elsa broke her arm and we paid for treatment. At the same time it was found that she had anaemia (very common due to malnutrition) so we got her some vitamins and iron supplements.
Finally the new school year starts in March and all children are in need of funds to purchase school materials, books, notebooks, pencils etc. The children who are already sponsored will be able to use their sponsorship money to pay for these items but now with the money from KPMG we will be able to assist many more.
The balance of the money is likely to be used in June to pay for the children to be provided with hot chocolate and pastries as in June in Peru it is very cold.
As you can imagine, we are also suffering due to the credit crunch as we are receiving much less donations just recently and our funds are depleted. With donations like these we are able to keep topping the bank account up in order to continue helping these wonderful children and making their lives just a little bit better.

December 2008
The annual Christmas party for the children will take place this year on Sunday 21 December 2009.
The money raised from the sale of Christmas card and calendars will be used to pay for the gifts, hot chocolate and pastries given to the children at the Party. However we are in need of further assistance this year as more children are now attending the centre but donations have been lower than normal.
If you are able to donate any amount this would be gratefully welcomed and should be sent to the following account number:-
Donations in euros:
Name of bank - Bancaja
Swift Code:- CVALESVVXXX
Account Number - ES57 2077 0418 61 3602126505
Donations in US Dollars Bank:
BBVA - Banco Continental (Perú)
Swift Code: BANCO BCONPEPL
Account Number: 0011-0200-30-0200562140
Alternatively we would also be very grateful to receive donations of soft toys, books, games or toys which can be used as gifts for the children. It doesn’t matter if these items are second hand as long as they are in good condition. All packages should be sent to the following address:-
Luz Marina Aguilar de Salazar
AMAS Urbanización Miraflores
C6-A San Jerónimo, Cusco, Perú

November 2008
The children have once again made Christmas cards to be sold in order to raise funds.
The children have once again made Christmas cards to be sold in order to raise funds. The children have lots of fun drawing the pictures, sticking on glitter and using lots of imagination and later Sra. Luz patiently trims all the pictures and sticks them on to card to create wonderfully personal handmade Christmas cards. Envelopes are then printed with some information about AMAS so that when the Christmas cards are given or posted to their recipient they are aware of the good cause that is being supported.
This year a kind donation from Sue Buske and friends in Pinoso, Alicante, Spain paid for the printing of 1000 pocket calendars which are now being sold to recover the cost but more importantly to raise awareness. AMAS is a small charity with limited possibilities due to the fact that it relies completely upon volunteers and donations. It is therefore important to try to reach more people who will hopefully see that AMAS is in need of more donations, more people to sponsor the children and more volunteers.
So far 250 euros has been raised from the sale of the Christmas cards and calendars but we hope that this figure will rise. If you are interested in purchasing Christmas cards or pocket calendars please send us an e-mail:- info@amasinternacional.com

October 2008
Un voluntario que ha asistido el centro ha sido tan amable de donarnos un portátil.
A volunteer who attended the centre to assist with the children has been kind enough to donate a lap top for use by the children. This means that the children will be able to learn how to use a computer which of course in this day and age is extremely important to improve their chances of obtaining better jobs in the future. Thank you to Yoshua.

September 2008
This month we have been contacted by a very kind person called Erika.
She is from Peru and both her husband and her son are pilots who regularly fly to Cusco. This month she arranged for them to take a great selection of sweets, toys and presents for the children who are still awaiting sponsorship. In addition she will now be sponsoring Joaquin. We would like to thank Erika for her support.

August 2008
A small jumble sale was held in Hammersmith London by Catherine Walsh on Sunday 17th August which managed to raise almost 60 euros.
Also the leftover teddy bears and some items of clothing and scarves were sent out to the children in Peru. Many thanks to those who donated and those who bought items.

July 2008
A big thank you to KPMG, an auditing, tax and advisory firm in Central London, for their recent donations.
Thanks to Department dress down days where staff donate to charity for attending a day in casual wear AMAS has already received two donations of around 80 pounds each and with a third one likely to take place any time soon.
The money arrived just at the right time as the Centre had a shortage of volunteers who normally purchase provisions such as books, paper, pens, rubbers, pencils etc for the children during their stay there. Therefore the centre was running particularly low on these provisions and so this money was used to stock up again on these very basic but very necessary items. The second amount of money was used to purchase footballs, cuddly toys, games, skipping ropes and further supplies of paper and colouring pens etc.

June 2008
A kind donation of 50 pounds raised by Jill Walsh in London was used to prepare baked potatoes with cheese for all of the children at the centre.
A kind donation of 50 pounds raised by Jill Walsh in London was used to prepare baked potatoes with cheese for all of the children at the centre. Jill organised a clothes swop at her home in London. She invited all her friends to come with any clothes they did not want. Each friend paid 5 pounds entry fee and then could freely swop clothes. Everyone left with new items for their wardrobe and AMAS would like to say a big thank you to Jill and her friends.
60 kilos of potatoes were baked in clay ovens and were eaten together with butter and cheese with fruit and fizzy drinks. As you can imagine the children thoroughly enjoyed the warm food on a particularly cold day. In Peru June can be a very cold and wet month and the children need warm food to build their strength.

September 2007
Jumble Sale held in La Marina
A big thank you to all the people who came to the jumble sale and
especially the regulars of The Final Whistle Sports Bar who helped us
raise almost €400. Part of this money was used to pay for a Halloween
party for the children.

July 2007
Jumble Sale held in London
A great success which raised almost €1000. Thanks must be given to The Canadian Tourist Board who kindly donated a large amount of items to be sold at the sale. The money raised here is being used to provide the children with a cup of hot chocolate and baked potatoes on a regular basis. The winter months in Peru can be harsh and it is when the children most need good alimentation.
